Mallorca holiday - Versatile holiday island

A few hours flight, from any country within Europe, a Mallorca holiday is ideal as a beach and / or walking holiday. The total area is 3684 km² and more than 800.000 people live there. Mallorca is a very versatile island. The sun shines more than 300 days a year. In the summer months, crowds of tourists come here to enjoy the sea and the beach. There are still many beaches with few tourists, such as S'illot Beach in North Mallorca, but the island has much more to offer than sun, sea and sand. I have made an overview of the most beautiful beaches on Mallorca and you will find them here.

Serra de Tramuntana

Serra de Tramuntana Mallorca

To the west is the 1500 meter high Serra de Tramuntana, a beautiful mountain range. We have some there walks made. You will find the most beautiful views, walking along nicely landscaped paths and deep gorges. In the high season we walked for hours without meeting anyone. This "real Mallorca" contrasts enormously with mass tourism, which you will find in the east and south of the island, which this island is quite familiar with. In this part you do not see crowds of tourists, but rather feel the still quiet Mediterranean atmosphere of the past.

Mallorca holiday: perfect for a cycling and walking paradise

Majorca is a versatile island that continued to surprise us with its natural beauty. Once the summer months pass, it also becomes an oasis of calm on the east coast. In this period, we found the walks that go through the woods and along the sea very pleasant. We will definitely go back again, to make some walks that we could not do.

Mallorca also has a lot of recreational and professional cyclists. People come here to train every year. When you go out, you sometimes see a cyclist riding here and there. You can take all kinds of routes, from flat easy parts to tough rides through the mountains. There are many cycling holidays on offer to Mallorca and bicycle rental companies on Mallorca can be found everywhere. If you prefer not to take your bike on the plane, you can easily rent one on Mallorca.

Along the GR 221 route mountain huts have been built that serve as shelter, but you can also spend the night there. You must reserve the cabins in advance. Via the GR221 route you can make a multi-day trip, which runs along the Tramuntana chain. This hike is in the top 5 of our bucket list. You will also find beautiful picturesque villages, such as Valldemossa. There are also shorter walks. We made these 3 breathtaking walks.

A Majorca holiday is also enjoying at the pool

Also in the west of the island, the sea is never far away. Our permanent rental home with swimming pool was located in Campanet. The driving time to a deserted beach was never longer than 25 minutes. We went because of the heat, usually walking in the morning and swimming in the afternoon. The sea water there is pleasant, neither too hot nor too cold, and the beaches are not overcrowded. Sometimes you have sandy beaches, but also beaches with fine pebbles. Water shoes are recommended everywhere because of the many rocks and sea urchins.

Best period to go

In the summer it can be very hot and dry. If you plan the heaviest activities in the morning and take it slower in the afternoon, the summer is good to go. There are of course many tourists, but as I wrote, you will find them less in the north-west of the island.

The ideal period to go is April and May, then everything is in bloom. I still think it is too fresh to swim in the sea. For the temperature of the seawater, you better go in September or October. In that period it is less warm and the sea is still warmed up enough at the ideal swimming temperature of 25 ° C. In the winter, especially in the mountains, it can be cold with occasional rain.

I also made a list with “what to do in Mallorca".

Wim & Jessica

We created the travel blog "Globetrotter Avenue" as a hobby, but also to share travel experiences with others. In the meantime we have visited more than 40 countries. We love nature, forests and mountains, but also sun, sea and beach. When we are not traveling, you will find us in the garden. Enjoy reading!
